“It’s not just the making of babies, but the making of mothers that midwives see as the miracle of birth”. - Barbara Katz Rothman

‘Holding you through Matrescence’.

Hi, I’m Monica.

I’m so excited to be on this journey with you.

Birth and home birth have always been a part of my life.

Unable to find a home birth midwife, my Mama chose to free-birth after encouragement from her unicorn GP Obstetrician. I flew out en caul (in the sack), and in awe of her experience, my Mama went back to add midwifery to her nursing training, including supporting home birth.

I was at my first home birth at around four and remember helpfully getting my arm caught in an old wringer washing machine!

I remember a woman being in my parents’ bed to have her baby because the house bus they lived in didn’t have room (yes, my parents may have been a little bit hippie…).

When I birthed both my beautiful babies and witnessed the power and presence that is within women during birth and how tough the post-partum can be, doing my midwifery training felt so right..

In 2009, I completed my Bachelor of Midwifery with Distinction. For 15 years, I worked as a Clinical Midwifery Specialist in a Midwifery Group Practice model at a freestanding birth centre with no onsite obstetric support. This special relationship-based care tailored to the women and their families left me deeply committed to supporting personalised care, normal birth, and nurturing parenting.

Outside my midwifery world, life is full, with my tall, gorgeous man, six collective kids now all over 20, and a new life in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney. When I need to refuel, I get my feet in the dirt or the water, lift weights, hang out with soul sister, and get a little crunchy.

On a relaxed day, I love cooking amazing, wholesome food for a crowded table.

Whatever your needs are, I’m always available to chat, so please don't hesitate to reach out.

‘My Philosophy’

MotherCare is about mamas getting informed, being supported, and having epic care with profound connection.

I’m here to walk alongside you and support your growing knowledge as you and your family journey through pregnancy and childbirth.

My role is to model a deep commitment to honouring the power of birth and creating a supportive space as a supportive carer for whatever unfolds. I believe in midwifery skills and knowing when and how to support physiology to optimise outcomes.

My own pregnancy and experiences as a new mama helped me understand how important good care is.

This drives me to provide women with evidence-based information and personal, safe, nurturing, and respectful care while developing a mutually trusting relationship with the family I care for during their journey into their baby’s first year.

‘My Collaborations’

As a Registered and Endorsed Midwife, I work within many professional guidelines.

Should any risk factors develop, I consult with a wide range of multidisciplinary healthcare professionals, including obstetricians, endocrinologists, mental health professionals, and social workers.

I also collaborate with naturopaths, dieticians, acupuncturists, or women’s health physiotherapists, and I am more than happy to work alongside practitioners you already know and trust.
